WordCamp Mumbai 2017

WordCamp Mumbai is always good experience. WordCamp Mumbai is biggest and well orgainized WordCamp in India. Because of last time’s great experience I decided to go this time again. A week before I did reservation for train and hotel with other rtCampers. And the journey to WordCamp Mumbai begin with curiosity.

We reached around 10 AM at registration counter. I met with my some old friends and did registration. All attendees are welcomed with the sponsors board at the entry.

Then the session started at 10:30 AM by Rocío Valdivia, Community Wrangler at Automattic from Spain. She spoke on How to get (more) involved with WordPress. She gave well explanatory session to get involved with WordPress in lots of ways. I wondered that so many channels are there in slack for WordPress contributions.

Next session started around 11 AM by Makarand Mane, Freelance developer, on WordPress translation & Localisation. He raised some valid points for syncing and communication between translation teams and How should translation editors handle the translations on Global Translation Day.

All the sessions on first were very engaging, but some sessions that I really want to mention in this post.
Writing PHP – The WordPress Way! – Rahul Bansal
Rahul gave very important tips to Developers. He explained Why should we use WordPress functions instead of core PHP functions with great examples.

Glimpse of WP-CLI – Anand Thakkar
Anand Thakkar is Team Leader in Hidden Brains Infotech. He explained what is WP-CLI? How can we use WP-CLI. He written script to install and setup WordPress with command line. He gave idea about WP Doctor and Checksums and how to use these commands to check infected site.

Adventures in Entrepreneurship – Nirav Mehta
This was best session in WorlCamp Mumbai. Nirav spoke about his experience in entrepreneurship. He gave very important lessons on entrepreneurship. He told how he keep himself strong in bad situations. How he faced the challenges and gave some Tips. These are some tips I remember.

Failures are inevitable

Tough times = Growth times.

Watch out for early warnings- Adapt, Diversify

Don’t give up.

WCMumbai2017

I met with lots of inspiring people made some contacts and networking. This time WorlCamp Mumbai Organizers kept one nice condition for attendees to get swag. Organizers made stamp of all sponsors logos and gave on sponsors booth. They given a  notepad to all attendees at the time of registration and the backside of notepad had logos of all the sponsors. You were required to collect stamp on the logos from at least 10 sponsors, then only they were giving WordCamp Mumbai T-shirt and Coffee Mug. So that every attendee visited the sponsors booth at least to collect a stamp from sponsors. Every booth was engaged with crowd.

The best part of WordCamp 2017 – I won the WPEka crossword puzzle challenge. Thank you WPEka for amazing gift. I got the amazon voucher. My other 3 colleagues (Joel, Maitreyi, Yahil) also won the challenge.

After First day event, I went for dinner with Radhe, Anto, Yahil. We tried new dish Chicken Kepsa, We thought it will be very tasty dish, like Biryani or something, because on Menu card It was looking very mouth watering dish and manager said it is our special dish. But when we tasted it, It tasted like Schezwan rice. We were very disappointed. 😦

After the last day event, I got some time to travel around city. I went with some rtCampers ( Sagar, Rahul, Bharat ) on Bandra–Worli Sea Link. Its really a great structure with scenic view. We rambled on Bandstand Promenade and took photos.
